A. When starting solids for your 5-month-old daughter who has been exclusively breastfed until now, mashed banana is a generally safe and popular choice for introducing solids. It's rich in nutrients, easy to digest, and generally well-tolerated by babies. However, opinions can vary based on cultural practices, pediatrician recommendations, and individual baby preferences. Here are a few points to consider: 1. **Readiness Signs:** Look for signs that your baby is ready for solids, such as showing interest in what you're eating, sitting up with support, and being able to hold her head steady. 2. **Single Ingredient:** It's often recommended to start with single-ingredient foods to watch for any allergic reactions or digestive issues. Mashed banana is a good choice for this purpose. 3. **Texture:** Ensure the mashed banana is smooth and easily swallowable for your baby's first experiences with solids. 4. **Variety Over Time:** While starting with mashed banana is fine, you should gradually introduce other fruits, vegetables, and eventually grains and proteins to offer a well-rounded diet. 5. **Consultation:** If you're uncertain or have specific concerns about your baby's diet, it's always best to consult your pediatrician for personalized advice. Starting solids is an exciting milestone, and it's important to go at your baby's pace while ensuring she receives balanced nutrition and enjoys exploring new foods gradually.
