My cousin gifted me a lotion for baby, is applying lotion safe for newborn?

Absolutely we do ourselves recommended to use proper creams and lotion on the skin of the child and specially in the winter season it is going to help in maintaining proper moisturising in the skin so you should use it through and through you should also use a good oil to massage the body of your child
