A. Thank you Rashmi for the response.
I was surprised it happened even after brushing her teeth twice daily and considering that she drinks sufficient water (sometimes I am even adviced against giving her so much water).
But yes she is also prone to frequent cough and cold.
I have started making her do the salt water garlgle since yesterday night.
so how long does it usually take to go off?

A. Careful oral hygiene is important. .....Brush your child’s teeth and tongue regularly...... Try to prevent throat infections as much as possible..... Drink plenty of water when eating to wash down food particles. Also, try not to eat just before going to bed ....it’s easier for food particles to get lodged while sleeping....
If stones are present, try a salt water gargle that helps decrease swelling and dislodge visible stones.....A water pick can be a handy little device to help wash out/dislodge stones. (Just try not to gag yourself in the process). Because the stones are benign, it’s very common that doctors will advise you to do nothing about tonsil stones. If there is a particularly large, bothersome stone that you can’t easily dislodge, sometimes a doctor will have to extract the stone....Very rarely do ENTs (Ear, Nose, and Throat specialists) take out tonsils for stones. Usually, if tonsils are taken out it is for chronic infection reasons, which indirectly can contribute to the stones. In select circumstances (not commonly), antibiotics may be prescribed...

A. Thank you Shivani for the information.
So far neither is there any swelling, nor any pain in the throat. Her activities and eating is all normal.I just noticed the white thing inside.
So wanted to know if there are any natural remedies so that it goes off.

A. Tonsils work to trap germs entering the body through the nose and mouth. Therefore, when there is an infection, these tissues swell temporarily and cause pain in the throat. While antibiotics may be required to deal with the infection, some natural remedies are useful in reducing the pain and discomfort due to the enlarged adenoids and tonsils.
Salt water Gargle
When your child begins complaining of pain in the throat, the first remedy to try is a saltwater gargle prepared by mixing in one tablespoon of salt into a glass of warm water. The high concentration of salt helps to draw out the liquid from the inflamed tissues and this reduces their swelling. As a result of this dehydrated condition, it becomes more difficult for the bacteria to multiply and thrive. Through both these actions, a saltwater gargle can provide relief from the pain of enlarged adenoids and tonsils. However, you must ensure the child is old enough to manage the act of gargling without drinking the saltwater or it may result in vomiting.
Honey and lemon
Honey has antibacterial as well as anti-inflammatory properties; as a result it can help to reduce swelling of the tonsils. Take a teaspoon of honey and mix in 2 – 3 drops of lemon juice and make your child consume this about thrice every day for relief from throat pain.
