Q.

#asktheexperts "My son is 5 years and 5 months old. The doctor diagnosed him with enlarged adenoids. However, the doctor advised that surgery is not needed at the moment and prescribed nasal drops, suggesting that we observe him for another one or two years and consider surgery later if necessary. Since his adenoids are somewhat enlarged, I would like to know whether surgery is the only treatment option. Is it safe to wait without surgery for now, or could delaying surgery cause any problems?"

A. Hello! Generally, yes, if a doctor recommends observation, it means the current symptoms are likely manageable and not causing complications like sleep apnea or ear infection. Keep observing your child for any kind of sleep disorder, breathing, chronic infection or dental or facial changes in between.
