A. If the Hepatitis B (HEPB) vaccine was not given at birth, it can still be given later. Here’s what you need to know: When Can It Be Given? The first dose can be given at any time, ideally as soon as possible. The remaining doses will be adjusted accordingly in a 3-dose schedule: 1️⃣ First dose – As soon as possible. 2️⃣ Second dose – 4 weeks after the first dose. 3️⃣ Third dose – 16 weeks after the first dose (at least 8 weeks after the second dose). Consequences of Missing the Birth Dose If the baby’s mother is Hepatitis B positive, missing the birth dose increases the risk of transmission. However, if the mother is Hepatitis B negative, the risk is low. Delaying the vaccine reduces early protection, leaving the baby vulnerable to the virus. What You Should Do Now Consult a pediatrician immediately and start the vaccine schedule as per their guidance. If you’re unsure of your Hepatitis B status, get tested to assess the baby’s risk. Since it’s not too late, getting the HEPB vaccine now will still provide protection!
