Yes he is right. Common cold or a fever can be caused by any of the numerous viruses present out there . Every time the baby is exposed to a virus she gets cold or sometimes fever. But u need not worry about this as she develops an immunity to this virus and will be more stronger as she grows old. So it's very common for infants to catch colds or get fever often. It indicates a good development of their immune system. So as the baby grows older the frequency of getting cold or fever he get will reduce. If it is not reduced even after few years then you should let your pediatrician know about it as the kids immune system may be weak and get some immunity boosters prescribed. Always include healthy fruits and vegetables and other pulses in baby's regular diet.

Cough along with Cold most of the time is a  viral illness and it needs supportive care along with proper hydration. you can give steam inhalation which is very useful .
cough needs to be treated with anti allergic and expectorant bronchodilators or antitussives medicine which should be given only aftehrr a proper evaluation by the doctor according to the type of cough.
if fever is there paracetamol can be given to reduce the fever and the dose can be repeated after 6 hours again if required .
