Q.

#AskTheExpert my daughter is 29 days old and since birth she has two teeth like protruding gums. One of those has become red now. Any advice on how to deal with those? Do we need to get those removed asap or we can continue as is?

A. hello parent your kids 29 days hold and notice to have two natal teeth or gum swellings, as long as they are intact , not mobile or interfering with latchment, nothing to do, in case of feeding difficulty one can consult dentist

A. Thank you Pooja and Dr. Imran. Since the last 3 nights she has been asking for feed after every 30-45 minutes which I now think is discomfort in those two gums may be and not actually being hungry. One of those has turned red and is harder than the second one which is still white in color and is softer. Consulted a dentist who said these need to be removed using a blade as newborns breathe from mouth and this may create an obstruction in breathing. I am very afraid of this now. Please help. Is removing these surgically the only solution?

A. Natal teeth are relatively rare, occurring in about 1 out of every 2,000 births. It can be a shock if your baby is born with teeth. But you don't need to worry or take action unless the teeth interfere with feeding, or are a choking hazard.
