#asktheexpert hi my baby is 20 months old .he is a boy and he has mild bicuspid aortic valve and stenosis with gradient 19 mmHg,is it life threatning ,what to do?

A. Bicuspid valves may eventually leak (aortic regurgitation) and/or narrow (aortic stenosis). It can be years before BAV causes an issue. Once your valve shows signs of regurgitation or stenosis, your heart is likely working harder to pump blood to the body. The extra work can lead to heart failure.
