Q.

#asktheexpert Hello doctor my daughter is 5 year 11 months old. She is having sleep issue. She took more than 2 hours to sleep. We tried everything. Tell her a story, give her warm milk, dim lights, play soft music, make her tired at day time. Still she didn’t sleep at all. She close her eye but her mind didn’t stop so she didn’t sleep. Please suggest something. She take afternoon nap for 2 hours. But sometimes if she didn’t then also she took same time to sleep.

A. Sleeping pattern in children may be variable in different age group so if the baby is active and taking proper feeding with no other complaints most of the time there is nothing to worry. You have to just see the child should not be uncomfortable which may be because of factors like temperature of the room nasal blockage some discomfort like infantile colic or hunger. In older cbiihildren a proper discipline is required so that the sleeping pattern can be scheduled according to a prouper time try to avoid too much of screen time with sometimes can be the causative factor for disturbed sleep.

A. You need to stop giving this afternoon nap to the child try to keep your child away throughout the day keep your child busy finalise the energy of the child to keep the child busy and once your child is going to be mentally and physically exhausted your child will sleep well in the night
