Orfeo Name Meaning

The name Orfeo is of Italian origin and is derived from the Greek name Orpheus. It has a mythical and musical connotation associated with it.

In Greek mythology, Orpheus was a legendary musician, poet, and prophet. He was known for his beautiful singing, so much so that his music was said to charm even wild animals and make trees and rocks move. Orpheus is perhaps best known for his journey to the Underworld to retrieve his wife, Eurydice. He played such hauntingly beautiful music that Hades, the ruler of the Underworld, allowed him to bring Eurydice back to the living world on one condition: he must not look back at her until they were out of the Underworld. Unfortunately, Orpheus couldn't resist and turned around at the last moment, resulting in Eurydice being lost to him forever.
