Guatemoc Name Meaning

The name "Guatemoc" is of Nahuatl origin and is commonly spelled as "Cuauhtémoc." The Nahuatl language originated in Central Mexico and was primarily spoken by the Aztecs. The meaning of the name "Guatemoc" is often interpreted as "descending eagle" or "falling eagle," combining the words "cuauhtli" (eagle) and "temo" (to descend or fall).

Guatemoc is primarily known as the last Aztec emperor of Tenochtitlan (now Mexico City) during the Spanish conquest of the Aztec Empire in the 16th century. He was born around 1495 and succeeded his uncle, Moctezuma II, as the ruler of the Aztec Empire in 1520. Despite his young age at the time, Guatemoc valiantly fought against the Spanish conquistadors under Hernán Cortés. However, the Aztecs were eventually defeated, and Guatemoc was captured by the Spanish in 1521.
