POOJA KOTHARIMom of a 8 yr 5 m old boy6 months agoA. In the 8th month of pregnancy, a hard stomach can be due to several normal and sometimes concerning reasons:
Common Causes of a Hard Stomach in the 8th Month
Braxton Hicks Contractions (False Labor)
These are practice contractions that prepare your body for labor. Your belly may feel tight and hard for a few seconds to minutes, then relax. More common in the third trimester, especially after activity or dehydration.
Baby’s Growth & Position
As the baby grows and moves, certain areas of your belly may feel hard or tight. The baby’s head or back pressing against your belly can cause localized hardness.
Gas & Bloating
Increased progesterone levels slow digestion, leading to bloating and gas, making your stomach feel hard.
Constipation
Common in pregnancy due to hormonal changes and iron supplements. A backed-up bowel can make the lower abdomen feel firm.
Dehydration
Lack of water can trigger Braxton Hicks contractions, making your belly feel hard. When to Be Concerned?
Seek medical advice if:
Contractions become regular and painful (every 5-10 minutes) → could be preterm labor. Severe pain that doesn’t go away. Decreased baby movements. Vaginal bleeding, fluid leakage, or pressure in the pelvis. What Can You Do?
✅ Drink plenty of water (at least 8-10 glasses a day).
✅ Rest & change positions if your belly feels tight.
✅ Take a warm shower to relax muscles.
✅ Avoid heavy meals to reduce bloating and gas.
If the hardness is frequent and uncomfortable, it’s best to consult your doctor for reassurance! Let me know if you have any other symptoms.
