POOJA KOTHARIMom of a 8 yr 5 m old boy6 months agoA. It’s completely normal for some newborns to have extra body hair, especially on the face, back, and shoulders. This fine hair is called lanugo and usually falls off on its own within a few weeks or months.
What You Can Do: Gentle Massage – You can massage your baby with warm coconut oil, almond oil, or baby oil before bath time. This helps improve circulation and may gradually reduce hair. Besan (Gram Flour) & Milk Paste – Some traditional home remedies suggest a mild paste of besan and milk (or besan and turmeric) applied gently on the skin, but avoid rubbing too hard, as a baby’s skin is very delicate. Regular Bathing – Use a soft baby washcloth and mild soap while bathing to gently clean the skin. What to Avoid: Harsh Scrubbing or Rubbing – This can irritate your baby’s delicate skin. Using Hair Removal Creams – These are not safe for babies. Overusing Home Remedies – While some mild home treatments are okay, frequent or rough application can harm the baby’s skin.
Most of the excess hair will shed naturally as your baby grows. If the hair remains thick beyond a few months, you can discuss it with your pediatrician. Let me know if you need more guidance!
