POOJA KOTHARIMom of a 8 yr 5 m old boy7 months agoA. Pain, swelling, and temporary difficulty in moving the leg are common side effects of the JE (Japanese Encephalitis) vaccine. However, if your child is experiencing severe pain and cannot move his leg properly, here’s what you can do:
Home Remedies to Reduce Pain & Swelling
Cold Compress:
Apply an ice pack wrapped in a cloth on the injection site for 10-15 minutes. Repeat 3-4 times a day to reduce pain and swelling.
Gentle Massage:
Lightly massage the area around (not directly on) the injection site to improve circulation and reduce stiffness.
Leg Movements:
Encourage your child to move the leg slowly to prevent stiffness. Avoid too much pressure or forceful movement.
Pain Relief Medication (If Needed):
If the pain is severe, you can give Paracetamol (Crocin or Calpol) after consulting the doctor for the correct dose. When to See a Doctor?
✅ If the swelling keeps increasing or turns red and warm.
✅ If your child develops a fever above 102°F.
✅ If there is pus formation or signs of infection.
✅ If your child cannot move the leg even after 48 hours.
Most vaccine-related pain resolves within 2-3 days, but keep monitoring. Let me know if you need further help!
