A. It is generally not recommended for babies to sleep on their stomachs, especially at 5 months old. Sleeping on the stomach has been associated with an increased risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). For safety, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends that babies be placed on their backs to sleep, both for naps and at night, until they are at least 1 year old. If your baby is rolling over on their own and prefers to sleep on their stomach, it is usually okay, as this means they have developed the muscle strength and coordination to move themselves into that position. However, you should always place your baby on their back to sleep initially, and once they are able to roll over on their own, you don't need to reposition them if they turn onto their stomach. In addition, to ensure a safe sleep environment: Use a firm mattress and avoid soft bedding, pillows, or stuffed animals in the crib. Keep the room at a comfortable temperature to avoid overheating. If you have concerns about your baby’s sleep habits or any other issues, it’s always a good idea to consult your pediatrician for personalized advice.
