Q.

My baby had her 6th week vaccination 15 days back. And there is a lump on her left thigh where DTaP injection was put. The lump was red and swollen. Yesterday pus came in from a small opening next to it. And lump is reduced a bit. Should that be of a concern and how many days it will take for it to get disappear completely?

A. Post vaccination swelling may be a common thing specially after DPT vaccine which may be painful for two or three days and the swelling may remain even up to month so if it is not causing any pain or other symptoms nothing to worry. Swelling can be reduced by giving ice fomentation locally and paracetamol can be given for fever or pain. Thrombophobe ointment can be applied in acute pain and swelling . sometimes if there is any abscess formation antibiotic is required
