A. Red patches on the back of a baby's head can be caused by several factors. Here are some common reasons: 1. **Cradle Cap:** This is a common condition in infants that causes scaly, greasy patches on the scalp, which can sometimes appear red and inflamed. 2. **Heat Rash:** Also known as prickly heat, this can occur when a baby is overheated. It appears as small red bumps or patches, often in areas where sweat accumulates. 3. **Infant Eczema:** Eczema can cause red, itchy, and inflamed patches on the skin, including the scalp. 4. **Friction:** Red patches could result from friction with bedding, clothing, or rubbing against surfaces. 5. **Birthmarks:** Some birthmarks, like hemangiomas or port-wine stains, can appear red and might be present at birth or develop shortly after. 6. **Allergic Reactions:** An allergic reaction to shampoos, lotions, or laundry detergents could cause red, irritated patches. 7. **Infections:** Bacterial or fungal infections can also cause red patches on the skin, though these are less common and usually accompanied by other symptoms. It's best to consult with your pediatrician to determine the exact cause of the red patches on your baby's head and to receive appropriate advice or treatment. In the meantime, keep the area clean and avoid using any new products that might irritate the skin further.
