A. Swelling in the hands and feet during pregnancy, especially in the third trimester, is fairly common due to the body retaining more fluid. However, sudden or severe swelling, especially along with high blood pressure like the 130/90 reading, could be a sign of pre-eclampsia, a condition that requires attention. Here’s what you can do: Rest and Elevate: Rest with your feet elevated, preferably higher than your heart, to reduce swelling. Try to lie on your left side to improve circulation. Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water to help flush out excess fluids from your system. Avoid Standing for Long Periods: Try to avoid standing or sitting for long periods of time, which can worsen swelling. Monitor Your BP: Keep an eye on your blood pressure. If it continues to rise or you experience symptoms like headache, vision changes, abdominal pain, or vomiting, seek immediate medical attention. Wear Compression Socks: Light compression socks can sometimes help with swelling in the feet and legs. Limit Salt: Reduce your salt intake, as excessive salt can contribute to fluid retention. Since your blood pressure is on the higher side, it’s important to consult your doctor. They may want to monitor your blood pressure and the swelling closely to rule out pre-eclampsia or other pregnancy complications. It’s always better to err on the side of caution and get a professional opinion if you're concerned.
