Cough and Cold should be treated only after a proper examination by a doctor after diagnosis.it may be any infective  or allergic.it is not so related to food items like banana etc.but seasonal changes may aggravate. 
if with fever too ,calpol can be given three times a day.give steam inhalation to relieve blocked nose and nasoclear drops can also be used multiple times.
Cough Syrup or nebulization shjould be given according to the type of cough .self medication is not advisable. if the cough is productive you can give ascoril-ls syrup for now only n continue in proigper doses only after doctor's guidance.avoid refrigerated items and give only simple home-made preparations as required.child will gradually begin to eat as symptoms resolve.

If You are just giving a basic fever medicine then that is fine also going to advise you to start doing Thande Paani ki patti regularly because that is going to help in reducing down the temperature way faster than usual
