Q.

#asktheexperts My son is now 1 year old and a vaccination was scheduled at completing 12 months which was JE (japanese encephalitis) and Hepatitis A so we went to the pediatrician to do the vaccination but instead of giving Hepatitis A and Japanese Encephalitis the pediatrician mistakenly gave Hepatitis A (Havrix 720) and Hepatitis B( BEVAC), when we get to know this we are shocked and asked the pediatrician that how a doctor can do this type of mistake, so please tell me is there any thing to be worried is this extra dose of Hepatitis B dose can be harmful for my son which was not required because all the dose of Hepatitis B is already done.

A. It’s understandable to be concerned about a vaccination error. While I’m not a medical professional, I can provide some general guidance regarding vaccination mistakes and what steps you can take next. Key Points to Consider 1. Understanding the Vaccines: Hepatitis A: This vaccine is typically given to protect against the hepatitis A virus, which can cause liver disease. Japanese Encephalitis (JE): This vaccine is important for protection against JE, particularly in areas where the virus is prevalent. Hepatitis B: This vaccine protects against hepatitis B virus, which can lead to serious liver infections. 2. Potential Reactions: Most vaccinations are safe and effective, but it’s important to monitor your child for any unusual reactions following vaccination. Common side effects include mild fever, irritability, and soreness at the injection site. If your child experiences severe reactions, such as high fever, difficulty breathing, or persistent crying, seek immediate medical attention. 3. What to Do Next: Consult Your Pediatrician: Schedule a follow-up appointment with your pediatrician to discuss the vaccination error. They can provide specific guidance based on the vaccines administered. Vaccination Records: Keep a detailed record of the vaccines given to ensure future vaccinations are managed correctly. Notify Health Authorities: Consider reporting the error to local health authorities or vaccination programs. This can help improve practices and prevent future mistakes. 4. Monitoring Health: Keep an eye on your child’s health in the coming days and weeks. If you notice any concerning symptoms, consult your pediatrician promptly. 5. Additional Resources: The CDC and the World Health Organization (WHO) provide guidelines and information regarding vaccines and potential side effects. You can refer to their websites for more information on vaccines and vaccination schedules. Conclusion It’s important to address any concerns with your healthcare provider and ensure your child’s health is monitored following the incident. Clear communication with your pediatrician can help ease your worries and clarify the next steps. If you have any more questions or need further guidance, feel free to ask.
