#AskTheExpert What can be done to treat Eye Discharge in Newborns as my baby is 20 days old and having eye discharge more than one week .I am cleaning the eye regularly.

A. very gently massage the the natural area near the corner of the eye and see if it is reducing or not. most of the time is there could be slight obstruction to the nasolacrimal duct and it is better that you consult an ophthalmologist

A. Eye discharge in newborns is common and often the result of a blocked tear duct. The blockage will usually clear up by itself within 4 to 6 months. However, newborns with eye redness, eye discharge, or excessive watering from the eyes should see a doctor to diagnose the cause and to rule out an eye infection.
