Q.

#AskTheExpert my wife got thyroid 12.5 at 3rd month before pregnancy there were normal thyroid level. hence Doctor suggested 100mcg Thyroxine tablet. now after one month we have checked now TSH level is normal. my question is do we have to continue this 100 mcg Thyroxine tablet till 9 month and is that tablet affect on baby or mother?

A. The medication will not have any effect on the baby or the mother and usually it will be for a lifetime you’re not supposed to stop it abruptly. If she’s using the medications and if your thyroid levels are normal then it means that her body requires that much amount of external thyroxine to maintain normal levels. A. Kindly follow as directed by your gynecologist, Increasing levothyroxine doses early in pregnancy is associated with a lower risk for pregnancy loss in hypothyroid women. In pregnancy, appropriate treatment of hypothyroidism is very important because low levels of thyroid hormone in the mother may harm her baby or even cause pregnancy loss or miscarriage.
