#AskTheExpert Madam, my son is 16 months old. Now he wants to eat clay/cement every time. Please tell me the reason why does he want to eat clay/cement and how can we stop him to do this?

ExpertRamya RamachandranNutritionist4 years agoA. Dear ma’am, it can be due to a condition called pica which can be due to iron deficiency also. Need to check his iron levels . However talk to your pediatrician regarding this

Vaishali TanwarMom of a 8 yr 3 m old boy4 years agoA. Hi, Eating non- eatable things like sand, cement etc is called pica. It generally happen due to nutritional deficiency.
Check with doctor if baby has some nutritional deficiencies and if some supplements are required.
Explain him gently that he should not eat such things.
