#asktheexpert Hi My son went through phototherapy on 7th day after he born ,His complexion is getting very dark day by day , especially legs ,hands and face.Now he is one and half month old whether it's color will back to normal .Does phototherapy cause permanent darkning of the skin ?

A. Hi,But We Both( Mother and father of child ) and our parents all are fair in complexion .Tanning is very much noticable .If skin tone getting darker by one tone after birth it is ok but after phototherapy we observed too much tanning .Phototherapy is nothing but keeping your baby under rays ,if sunlight causes tanning then it is obvious that the light rays will also cause tanning .

A. Phototherapy does not create darkness or darkness in the skin it is a misconception the skin colour usually changes for 6 to 8 ones and ultimately it is going to be dependent upon the colour complexion that’s going to be there with the genetics of the child
