Thetis Name Meaning

The name Thetis is of Greek origin. In Greek mythology, Thetis was a sea nymph, one of the Nereids and the daughter of the sea god Nereus. She played a significant role in various myths and was well-known for her role as the mother of the hero Achilles.

Thetis was married to the mortal Peleus, with whom she had a son, Achilles. She sought to protect her son from danger and made him invulnerable by dipping him into the river Styx, holding him by the heel. This led to the famous "Achilles' heel" vulnerability, as the heel remained the only weak spot on his body.
