Tethys Name Meaning

The name Tethys has both mythological and geographical origins. In Greek mythology, Tethys was a Titaness and the daughter of Uranus and Gaia. She was associated with the sea and was regarded as a personification of the waters of the world, including seas, rivers, and streams.

In terms of geography, Tethys is also the name of an ancient ocean that existed between the ancient continents of Gondwana and Laurasia. It is believed to have gradually closed up and disappeared during the formation of the supercontinent Pangaea.
