Fionuala Name Meaning

The name Fionuala is of Irish origin and is a variant of the name Fionnuala or Finnuala. It is derived from the Gaelic elements "fionn," meaning "white" or "fair," and "guala," meaning "shoulder."

Fionuala appears in Irish mythology as the daughter of Lir, a sea god, and the sister of Aodh, Fiachra, and Conn, collectively known as the Children of Lir. Fionuala and her siblings were transformed into swans by their jealous stepmother and were cursed to spend 900 years on different bodies of water in Ireland.
