Dymphna is primarily known as the patron saint of mental and emotional disorders, as well as neurological disorders. According to legend, she was an Irish princess who lived in the 7th century. When her mother died, her father, who was mentally ill, desired to marry her because of her resemblance to her mother. Dymphna fled to Belgium to escape her father's advances but was eventually captured and beheaded by him. She is venerated as a martyr saint and is said to have performed many miracles.
