In Greek mythology, Deianira was the wife of the hero Heracles (known as Hercules in Roman mythology). She is best known for being the unwitting cause of Heracles' death. According to the myth, Deianira unintentionally poisoned Heracles by giving him a cloak infused with the toxic blood of the centaur Nessus. Distraught by her husband's suffering and imminent death, Deianira tragically took her own life.
