A. Polymorph lymphocytes, also known as polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNs), are a type of white blood cell that play a crucial role in the immune system. MCV (Mean Corpuscular Volume) and MCHC (Mean Corpuscular Hemoglobin Concentration) are red blood cell indices that provide information about the size and hemoglobin concentration of red blood cells. If your report highlights abnormalities in polymorph lymphocytes, MCV, or MCHC, it may indicate several things: 1. Polymorph Lymphocytes: An increase in polymorph lymphocytes may suggest an ongoing infection, inflammation, or an immune response to some other stimulus. A decrease could indicate bone marrow issues or other conditions affecting white blood cell production. 2. MCV (Mean Corpuscular Volume): High MCV (macrocytic anemia): This can indicate conditions like vitamin B12 or folate deficiency, liver disease, or hypothyroidism. Low MCV (microcytic anemia): This may suggest iron deficiency anemia or thalassemia. 3. MCHC (Mean Corpuscular Hemoglobin Concentration): High MCHC: This can indicate hereditary spherocytosis or conditions that lead to dehydration of red blood cells. Low MCHC: This is often associated with iron deficiency anemia or thalassemia. To determine if these findings are a problem, it’s important to consider them in the context of your overall health, symptoms, and other lab results. If you have concerns about your report, it’s best to discuss them with your healthcare provider, who can provide a detailed explanation and guidance based on your specific situation.
