Q.

Son 3.8 yr old started speaking at the age of 3. progress was slow but now he speaks 2 words and sometimes 3 words. still not full sentences. or with flow. in last 2 months a lot of improvement. however now I realise many time he is repeating what I say and not actually giving the answer. ex how are? he knows the answer but will repeat the same. though started saying thanks sorry if his own. nit need to prompt him is it normal or need check up by speach pathologist or ASD??

A. ‌Children often learn to speak by repeating words that they hear. Echolalia is commonly seen in toddlers during the first 3 years. Echolalia can be a problem if it continues in children older than 3.
