A. At 6 months old, your baby is ready to start solid foods along with breast milk or formula. Start with soft, easily digestible foods and introduce one food at a time, waiting 3-5 days before trying a new one to check for allergies. ✅ First Foods to Introduce (Single-Ingredient & Soft) Fruits (Pureed or Mashed) Banana Apple (Steamed & Mashed) Pear (Steamed & Mashed) Papaya Chikoo (Sapota) Vegetables (Steamed & Mashed) Carrot Pumpkin Sweet Potato Bottle Gourd (Lauki) Spinach (Palak) Grains & Cereals (Light & Digestible) Rice Cereal (Homemade Rice Powder + Water/Milk) Moong Dal Khichdi (Cooked soft and mashed) Oats Porridge Ragi Porridge (Best for weight gain) Dairy & Protein (After a Few Weeks) Plain Curd (Homemade) Dal Water (Moong Dal Strained) Homemade Cerelac Mix Roasted Rice + Moong Dal Powder Cooked with Water 🍽 Feeding Schedule 🔹 Start with 1 meal per day (small quantity, 2-3 tsp). 🔹 Slowly increase to 2 meals a day after 1-2 weeks. 🔹 Always follow responsive feeding (let baby decide how much to eat). 🔹 Continue breastfeeding/formula as the main nutrition source. 🚫 Foods to Avoid at 6 Months ❌ Salt & Sugar (Avoid till 1 year) ❌ Cow’s Milk (Not before 1 year) ❌ Honey (Risk of botulism) ❌ Nuts & Seeds (Choking hazard, introduce after 9-12 months) ❌ Whole Grapes, Popcorn, or Hard Foods 🔹 Tips for a Smooth Start ✔ Offer runny consistency food first, then make it thicker. ✔ Use a small spoon and feed in a calm environment. ✔ Don’t force-feed, let the baby enjoy the process. ✔ Expect messy eating – it’s part of learning!
