A. When a three-month-old baby refuses breastfeeding after being on combined feeding (both breastmilk and formula), it can be concerning. Here are some suggestions to encourage your baby to take the breast again: 1. Skin-to-Skin Contact: Spend time with your baby skin-to-skin, which can help stimulate breastfeeding instincts. Hold her close to your chest in a relaxed, comfortable environment to create a sense of security. 2. Check for Comfort Issues: Ensure that your baby is in a comfortable feeding position. Try different breastfeeding positions, such as the cradle hold, football hold, or side-lying position, to see what works best. 3. Offer Breast When Sleepy: Babies are often more willing to nurse when they are sleepy or just waking up. Try offering the breast during these relaxed times. 4. Reduce Bottle Feeding Gradually: If bottle feeding is easier for your baby, she may develop a preference for it. To encourage breastfeeding, try reducing the frequency of bottle feeds gradually while offering the breast more often. 5. Try Breast Compression: While breastfeeding, gently compress your breast to help milk flow more easily. This can encourage your baby to latch on and stay interested. 6. Warmth and Relaxation: A calm and relaxed environment can help your baby feel less stressed during feeding. You could try breastfeeding in a quiet, dimly lit room. 7. Switch to a Slow-Flow Nipple: If you’re using a bottle, switch to a slow-flow nipple, which mimics the slower flow of breastmilk and can help avoid nipple confusion. 8. Express Milk First: You can try expressing a little breastmilk before offering the breast, so the milk flow is ready when your baby latches. This can reduce frustration if your baby prefers a faster flow. 9. Patience and Consistency: Breastfeeding may take some time, especially if your baby is used to bottles. Be patient and keep offering the breast consistently without forcing it. If the issue continues or you're concerned about her nutrition, it's always a good idea to consult with a pediatrician or a lactation consultant for personalized advice.
