A. It sounds like your son might be experiencing several issues after completing his antibiotics for an ear infection and viral fever. Here are some possible reasons for the ongoing fever and new symptoms of loose motion: 1. Post-Viral Fever: Viral infections can cause fever that lasts several days, even after the primary symptoms like ear pain improve. Sometimes, it takes longer for the body to fully recover from the viral infection, especially in children. 2. Antibiotic Side Effects: Loose motions (diarrhea) after antibiotics are common. Antibiotics can disrupt the natural balance of bacteria in the gut, leading to diarrhea. This condition is called antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and it can occur after finishing the course of medication. 3. Secondary Infection: It’s possible that the ear infection hasn’t completely resolved, or a secondary infection (such as a different bacterial infection) has developed. This could explain the ongoing fever. 4. Dehydration or Weakness: Loose motions can lead to dehydration, which may cause persistent fever or make your son feel weak. Ensure he stays hydrated with oral rehydration solutions (ORS) or plenty of fluids. 5. Viral Gastroenteritis: A new viral infection, such as viral gastroenteritis (stomach flu), could cause loose motions and fever. These viruses are common in children and often resolve on their own with supportive care. What You Can Do: Hydration: Ensure your son is getting enough fluids, including ORS, to prevent dehydration from loose motions. Probiotics: You can give probiotics or yogurt to help restore healthy gut bacteria. Monitor Symptoms: Keep track of his temperature, frequency of loose motions, and any other symptoms (like pain or irritability). Consult a Doctor: Since the fever is persistent and he now has loose motions, it’s best to consult your doctor to rule out any secondary infections or other causes of the fever and diarrhea. It’s important to get medical advice if the fever persists, especially since he has loose motions, as this can be a sign of something more serious that requires further treatment.
