Dr Vandan H KumarFather of a 7 yr 4 m old boy1 Year agoA. babies bite while breastfeeding for several reasons
-poor latch/ attachment
-too much milk flow
-low milk supply
-a cold or stuffy nose
-being full
-distraction or boredom
-teething
you can calmly say something such as “no biting” as you remove your breast
don’t pull your baby off too quickly. removing a baby that is still firmly latched can cause more injury to your nipple.
to ease the pain and protect your nipples, you can try:
-nipple cream, such as purified lanolin
-cold packs
-nursing on the unbitten side first — breastfeeding tends to be most vigorous at the beginning of a nursing session
-pain relievers that are safe for breastfeeding, such as paracetamol and ibuprofen can be taken
-using a pump to maintain your milk supply as you heal
biting is usually a temporary problem and babies quickly learn to stop.
a lactation consultant can help cyou find strategies to continue breastfeeding for as long as you and your baby wish.
AbhayaMom of a 15 yr 8 m old boy1 Year agoA. Hello there ma’am please do not worry about it too much. It might be due to teething in the baby. Please give homeopathic medicine BC21 to the baby. Also massage baby gums with clean cotton cloth. Please pack the back of the baby gently when the baby tries to bite you. Also, you can apply any lanolin based cream on your nipples. You can also use nipple shields like BabyHug while feeding your baby.
Thanks and take care
