Q.

My baby is 50 days old and got vaccinated today. Due to which he has got fever. doctor asked me to give him paracetamol thrice a day. But after the effect of dose remains for only 6hours. Can I give medicine after every six hours?

A. Fever is commonly seen in babies and mostly it's viral infection which is very common in children. But if fever is high grade and persisting or assosiated with specific symptoms than other causes should also be ruled out . Antipyretic like paracetamol or ibuprofen or mefenamic acid are usually given to reduce fever . Cold sponging with lukewarm water is also helpful . Doctor consujultation should be done if symptoms like excessive irritability dullness loss of appetite less urine output is there .

A. hi dear If your baby is younger than 50 days old, contact your health care provider for any fever. If your baby is 3 to 6 months old and has a temperature up to 102 F (38.9 C) and seems sick or has a temperature higher than 102 F (38.9 C), contact your health care provider.
