A. Your 10-month-old daughter crying frequently at night but being fine during the day could be due to several reasons:
Possible Causes & Solutions
Teething Pain
Babies around this age get new teeth, which can cause gum pain, irritation, and disturbed sleep. What to do? Offer a cold teether or gently massage her gums before bed. Use teething gels (if recommended by your doctor). Give a soft banana or mashed food before bedtime to soothe her.
Separation Anxiety
Babies at this age become more attached to their caregivers and may wake up scared if they don’t feel you around. What to do? Keep a comfort item (blanket, soft toy) near her. Try gentle patting or holding her hand while she sleeps.
Gas or Colic Issues
If she wakes up crying and pulling her legs towards her tummy, gas may be the reason. What to do? Give a gentle tummy massage before bedtime. Try a bicycle leg exercise in the evening. Check if any food is causing discomfort (like milk, lentils, or certain veggies).
Overstimulation Before Bed
If she plays too much or watches screens before bedtime, she may struggle to settle down. What to do? Follow a calm bedtime routine – dim lights, soft music, warm bath. Reduce screen time at least one hour before sleep.
Growth Spurt or Sleep Regression
Around 9–10 months, many babies go through a sleep regression, where they wake up frequently. What to do? Be patient; this phase usually passes in 2-3 weeks. Try to comfort her without picking her up every time.
Too Hot or Too Cold?
If the room is too warm or too cold, it can wake her up. What to do? Keep the room temperature comfortable (around 22–24°C). Use soft, breathable clothes. When to See a Doctor? If she cries inconsolably even when held. If she has a fever, loose motions, or vomiting. If she wakes up screaming in pain frequently.
