Offer colourful foods in colourful plates and cut foods into different shapes using food cutters to attract the attention of the child. Offer limited portions of the food and give more only when the child asks. Praise him even if he is able to finish only a small part of his meal. Kids at this age have a sense of independence. So let him choose what he wants to eat but you as a parent should give limited healthy options - for example : do you need a cheese sandwich or a peanut butter sandwich? This ways the kid will think that he was a part of the decision making process of what to eat. Give him a bowl and a spoon and let him try to eat on his own. Let him play with the food and make a mess. This is how he will learn to eat independently by touching, playing and finally tasting the food. Let him be a part of meal preparations such as setting up the table before meals and choosing the vegetable to be cooked.
