A. Mild vaginal cramps or lower abdominal pain can be normal during the second trimester of pregnancy, as the uterus is expanding and ligaments are stretching to support the growing baby. These are often referred to as round ligament pains and may feel like sharp or dull aches on one or both sides of the lower abdomen or pelvic area. However, painful vaginal cramps—especially if they are frequent, intense, or accompanied by bleeding, discharge, pressure, or back pain—should not be ignored. These could indicate a possible infection, urinary tract issue, or in rare cases, preterm labor. If the cramps are strong, increasing in intensity, or associated with any other unusual symptoms, it's important to consult your doctor right away to rule out any complications and ensure both mother and baby are safe.
