i am 36 week pregnant ..i have severe backache and constipation... is this a sign of labor?

yes it could be
but it is not necessary to have this as it might happen because of pregnancy sitica.
so please visit your gynecologist,it is important.
don't sit or stand for long period.
take Healthy and fiber rich diet more
increase your fluid intake.
place pillow between your legs while sleeping.
prefer to sleep on left side.
you may use Babyhug heating pad which can give relief in back pain.
