Dr Vandan H KumarFather of a 7 yr 4 m old boy1 Year agoA. rubbing of ear as well as itching of the ears is totally normal.
if the child is not crying do not worry about it and to decrease the itching sensation you can apply coconut oil over skin of ear.
do not use earbuds to clean the internal ear cavity.
external ear can be cleaned with the help of clean cotton cloth.
treatment is given only if zthe child is crying with pain while itching.
for pain you can give paracetamol.
the most common cause would be due to either referred teething pain or due to dry skin of the ears.
POOJA KOTHARIMom of a 8 yr 5 m old boy1 Year agoA. It's not uncommon for babies to occasionally itch their ears. However, frequent or intense ear itching could indicate a few potential issues:
1. **Teething**: Babies often experience discomfort in their ears while teething.
2. **Ear Infection**: An ear infection might cause itching or pulling at the ears. Other symptoms include fever, irritability, and trouble sleeping.
3. **Dry Skin or Eczema**: Dry skin or eczema around the ears can cause itching.
4. **Foreign Object**: Sometimes, small objects can get into the ear, causing irritation.
5. **Ear Wax Buildup**: Excess ear wax can cause discomfort and itching.
### Steps to Consider:
1. **Monitor Symptoms**: Keep an eye on any other symptoms, such as fever, fussiness, or trouble sleeping.
2. **Check for Visible Issues**: Look for signs of dry skin, redness, or discharge.
3. **Maintain Ear Hygiene**: Clean your baby's ears gently with a damp cloth; avoid using cotton swabs inside the ear canal.
4. **Consult a Pediatrician**: If the itching persists, worsens, or is accompanied by other symptoms, consult a pediatrician to rule out any infections or other issues.
