A. It is common for hair to temporarily fall out in areas where a scalp infection, such as a boil (funsi), occurs. The hair loss in that spot is usually due to inflammation or damage to the hair follicles caused by the infection. In most cases, once the infection heals completely and the skin recovers, the hair typically grows back on its own. However, this process can take a few weeks to months, depending on the severity of the infection. What You Can Do: Keep the Area Clean: Gently wash the affected area with mild soap and water to prevent further infection. Consult a Doctor: If the boil persists, worsens, or spreads, consult a pediatrician or dermatologist. They may prescribe an antibiotic or antifungal cream, depending on the cause. Avoid Scratching or Picking: Encourage your child not to scratch or pick at the boil, as it can worsen the condition and delay healing. Use a Nourishing Oil: Once the area has healed, you can apply coconut or almond oil to promote scalp health and hair regrowth. If the hair does not grow back after several months, or if you notice new boils forming, consult a doctor for further evaluation.
