A. Good question! Let me explain carefully: Salt — No, it is best not to add salt to baby's food before 1 year of age. Baby’s kidneys are still immature, and even a small amount of added salt is not recommended. Jaggery — Better to avoid till after 1 year. Even though jaggery is natural, it is still sugar and can cause digestion issues or tooth problems later. Babies don’t need sweeteners right now — they should enjoy natural taste of food. Cow's Milk — No, cow's milk as a main drink or in large quantity should not be given before 1 year. However, using 1–2 tablespoons of cow’s milk while cooking foods like ragi porridge (Ragi Sheri) is generally okay after 8 months, if tolerated (no allergy), but breast milk/formula is still better for mixing if possible. So for now (at 7-8 months): Prepare Ragi Sheri with water or breast milk or formula milk (best). No salt, no jaggery, very little or no cow's milk. Keep the ragi soft, smooth, and naturally flavored. Summary: Avoid salt, jaggery, and large cow's milk for now. Use water or formula to cook ragi. Add ghee after cooking for taste and nutrition!
