A. Yes, it’s absolutely okay to let your 5-month-old try sitting up if he is showing interest and doing it on his own — this is a positive developmental sign. At around 5 to 6 months, many babies begin trying to pull themselves into a seated position or enjoy being supported in a sitting posture. It's important to understand that sitting with support (like your lap, a soft pillow, or a baby seat with proper back support) is different from independent sitting, which most babies achieve closer to 6 to 8 months. Since your baby is not being forced and seems comfortable and happy while sitting, you can allow him to do so for short periods with proper support and supervision. Avoid forcing sitting for long periods or making him sit unsupported if his back is still wobbly — that can put strain on his spine and muscles. Letting him spend some time on his tummy and back is also important to build core strength. Crying when placed on the back is common at this age, as babies want to explore more. You can try engaging toys, tummy time, or gentle bouncing in your lap to keep him interested. In short: Yes, it’s okay to let him sit with support as long as he enjoys it and is doing it naturally. Just keep a balance of sitting, tummy time, and play. Let me know if you want a few ideas to help strengthen his sitting skills safely.
