#asktheexperts Hello doctor, my son has fever since Saturday. max was 101.7 on Saturday. it is an intermittent and after medicin CALPOL it gets subsidies and again it appears back. he is active and having his food as normal. no other symptoms. please suggest what to do.

A. Fever is when the temperature of the body goes above 99 degree fahrenheit and the safest medicine in such situation is paracetamol which can be repeated after 6 hours again if required in a proper dose . Alternative medicine can also be tried if required like ibuprofen and mefenamic acid preparations. cold sponging r of the whole body with tap water can be bceneficial too to bring the temperature down .

A. Fevers due to viruses can last for as little as two to three days and sometime as long as two weeks. A fever caused by a bacterial infection may continue until the child is treated with an antibiotic.
