A. A 5-month-old baby’s digestive system is still developing, and at this stage, most babies are typically still on breast milk or formula. Introducing solid foods like navratan (mixed) daal or any type of food is generally not recommended until around 6 months of age. Here are some guidelines for introducing solids: Timing for solids: The American Academy of Pediatrics and other health organizations recommend starting solids at around 6 months of age. At 5 months, your baby’s digestive system may not yet be ready for solid foods, and introducing solids too early can lead to digestive issues or allergies. Breast milk or formula: Continue breastfeeding or giving formula as the primary source of nutrition at this stage. If you’re thinking of introducing solids soon, some good first foods to start with at 6 months include pureed vegetables (like carrots or sweet potatoes) or single-grain cereals like rice or oatmeal. Introducing Navdavi or any pulse-based food: Pulses, including lentils or daals, are generally a bit heavy for a 5-month-old's stomach. It’s better to wait until your baby is closer to 6 months old, and even then, start with well-cooked, pureed foods. If you're concerned about introducing solids early, it’s a good idea to talk to your pediatrician for guidance tailored to your baby’s needs. Always look for signs that your baby is ready for solids, such as being able to sit up with support, showing interest in food, and having the ability to swallow rather than push food out with the tongue.
