If a 6-month-old baby girl has tears coming out even when she’s not crying, it may be due to a blocked tear duct, which is quite common in infants. This happens when the duct that drains tears from the eye to the nose is not fully open, causing tears to collect and overflow. It usually clears up on its own by the time the baby turns 1 year old. You can gently wipe the tears with a clean cloth and do a tear duct massage (pressing gently near the corner of the eye toward the nose) a few times a day. If the eye gets red, swollen, or has discharge, consult a pediatrician or eye specialist.
