Q.

#askTheExpert my son is having persistent cough for last 3 days.. we have shown him to pediatrician. he told chest is clear cough is due to allergy. he gave antibiotics and also tossex syrup yesterday. but yesterday had mild 99.5c fever. we gave him paracetamol now he is ok. since he is having antibiotics why fever is coming and also chest is clear? antibiotics started on Sunday and tossex started yesterday night

A. if it is a viral fever then antibiotics do not have any role and the fever will subside when the body generates antibodies in a few days.if it is a bacterial infection then it takes around 6 doses of antibiotic to decrease the fever. otherwise antibiotics need to be changed and all this can be interpreted only with examination and blood reports
