Q.

#AskTheExpert My 1 month old baby detected with jaundice. total bilirubin level is 12.3. Doctor said to put the baby under sunlight. so by 2-3 weeks it will cured. But i m feeling bit scared, will it gets cured by this only? and now days by baby sleeps alot during day time and is not taking feed properly, due to which he makes less wet diaper during afternoon time. kindly suggest what can I do?

A. yes Maam it will take a couple of weeks for the bilirubin levels to go down. if it is very high phototherapy is suggested. otherwise they say just take the baby in sunlight. but do this regularly. eat well but avoid certain foods like non veg if you are breastfeeding. also if you feel at anytime the babys eyes or nails are looking quite yellow please consult your pediatrician itself once.
