Q.

#AskTheExpert hi doctors how much amount of milk should a 5 month old baby be taking? my baby takes feed for hardly 5 mins. so I get doubt if she is having enough milk. after 5 mins when I force her to take milk she starts crying or shows signs that she doesn't want anymore. if suppose we shoupd feed 200ml of formula milk, should we feed same amount of breastmilk? can I produce so much milk for each feed? I'm always worried if I have enough milk to feed my baby. I see milk drops when I press the nipple. so I think I'm having milk but my only doubt is it enough. please kindly advise thank u

A. Dear mum, baby should be fed on demand that is whenever baby wants and how much baby wants . Some babies are fast feeders and are done in a few minutes. If baby is passing urine more than 6 to 8 times in 24 hours, is active, alert and gaining adequate weight at least 500 grams per month then do not worry, feeding is sufficient. Do not be stressed, do not have any doubts about your ability to breastfeed. Only exclusively breastfeed till 6 months complete.
